    Vision Guider Help

I want to adjust my microphone settings
    Windows XP:

    1. Open Windows Start Menu
    2. Control Panel
    3. Sounds and Audio Devices
    4. Voice

    Windows Vista:
    1. Open Windows Start Menu
    2. Settings
    3. Control Panel
    4. Hardware and Sound
    5. Sound
    6. Recording
    7. Highlight Microphone
    8. Properties
    9. Adjust the Levels, Enhancements, etc....

Play around with all your settings and experiment with your voice recording in the Vision Guider.

There are many factors that will effect your recording:
      - How loud you speak
      - How far your microphone is from your mouth
      - The type of sound card you have in your computer
      - The type of settings you have selected in the audio in your computer
      - The quality of your microphone
I cannot hear anything I have recorded
Check to see if your microphone is plugged into the correct jack. We know this seems obvious, but sometimes when plugging it in, if can be accidentally plugged into the "speaker" port or it is simply not plugged in all the way. It should be colored "green" or show a symbol of an old-fashioned microphone. We have also encountered some computers where the front jacks are not "turned on".

You can test to see if your microphone is working.

    Windows XP:

    1. Open Windows Start Menu
    2. Control Panel
    3. Sounds and Audio Devices
    4. Voice
    5. Test Hardware
    6. Follow instructions
    Windows Vista:
    1. Open Windows Start Menu
    2. Settings
    3. Control Panel
    4. Hardware and Sound
    5. Sound
    6. Recording
    7. Look at the Microphone bar on the right hand side. If it is moving up and down while you are talking in the microphone, it is working.
It is hard to hear my Voice Recording or I am experiencing feedback (an echo)
When recording, turn down your computer's speakers.

Also, try adjusting your Computer's Recording Control.

    Windows XP:
    1. Open your Windows Volume Control (it looks like a speaker in the Task bar), then
    2. Choose 'Options' in the menu, then
    3. Choose 'Properties' in the 'Options' menu, then
    4. Under the 'Adjust Volume For', choose the 'Recording' option, then
    5. Check the 'Microphone' and/or 'Line In' box, then
    6. Click the 'OK' button, then
    7. Move your slider for microphone all the way to the top, then
    8. Check the 'Select' box underneath the 'Microphone' slider, then
    9. Choose "Options" in the menu, then Choose Properties
    10. Under the "Adjust Volume For", choose the "Playback" option, then
    11. Check the box "Microphone" and/or "Line In", then
    12. Click the "OK" button, then
    13. Move the slider for Microphone all the way to the top, then
    14. Make sure that the "Mute" box is not checked for the Microphone
    15. Move the slider for Volume Control all the way to the top, then
    16. Close the window (X in the top right hand corner)
    Windows Vista:
    1. Open Windows Start Menu
    2. Settings
    3. Control Panel
    4. Hardware and Sound
    5. Sound
    6. Adjust System Volume
    7. Look for GotVision in the Applications (you may need to scroll to the right)
    8. Move the volume bar
      - move up if you need to hear your voice louder
      - move down if you are experiencing feedback (an echo)

Play around with all your settings and experiment with your voice recording in the Vision Guider. There are many factors that will effect your recording:
      - How loud you speak
      - How far your microphone is from your mouth
      - The type of sound card you have in your computer
      - The type of settings you have selected in the audio in your computer
I hear clicks and pops and other strange noises in my recording
There are several possible reasons. Try this test :

    Windows XP:

    1. Windows Start Menu
    2. All Programs
    3. Accessories
    4. Entertainment
    5. Sound Recorder
    6. Make a 15 - 30 second recording
    Windows Vista:

    1. Windows Start Menu
    2. Programs
    3. Accessories
    4. Sound Recorder
    5. Start Recording (with your microphone)
    6. Stop Recording
    7. Save to a folder
    8. Go to the folder and find your file
    9. Double click the file (it should open your Computer's media player)
    10. Listen to recording

When you play back your recording:

    - And you DO NOT hear the unwanted noise, then:

    • you may have turned up your voice and/or music too high. It could cause a distortion of the quality of the sound. Keep in mind that if you are turning up your voice and/or music it may be unnecessary. Your computer speakers (on a laptop for example) are not optimal to listening. Once the CD is made, you will play it in a CD player and you can turn up the volume without distorting the quality.
    - And you still hear the unwanted noise, then there are several possible reasons:

    • You are running other programs in the background (e.g. anti-virus software, photoshop etc..)
      • Try closing all applications that are running in the background.
    • The microphone, connector, computer speakers, hardware devices and sometimes the drivers in laptops are the issue.
      • Try a different microphone
      • The problem may be with your computer speakers - the strange noises may not be present in your recording, try making the CD and playing on a CD player
      • Download and install new sound drivers
      • If none of these stop the clicking and popping, try a different computer
The program seems to be taking a long time to do things
If the program seems to be working slowly, try closing down all applications that are running. For example, Excel, Word, Skype, Outlook, etc... And try closing applications that are running in the background (you can see which applications are running by looking in your task bar (bottom right-hand side of your computer). For example, Web Cams, Media Players (Roxio, Itunes, etc...), Photo Software, etc...
I am receiving this message, "Connect, Listen or Open method failed. Only one usage of each socket address, etc..."
We apologize for this frustrating message. We are in the process of eliminating these type of errors.

The error message that you received occurs when you have 2 Vision Guiders running at the same time.

To solve this error, please do the following:

    1. In the bottom right-hand side of your computer, you will see a little sun, please right-click and exit the program. If you see more than one sun, please right-click and exit that one as well.
    2. Please restart the Vision Guider again.
I want to use my Itunes (M4P's) in the Vision Guider, but I can't find them.
Itunes M4P's are patented technology only to be used in Itunes products. You can only use MP3's in the Vision Guider. However, there are free conversation programs (that you can find on the internet) that you could use to convert your M4P's to MP3's. We also have had some of our customers tell us that they burned their itunes MP4's to a CD, then imported the music into the Vision Guider using the "Music on Your CD" option in the Vision Guider.
I needed to "X" off the program. The program closed, but the harp music will not stop playing.
You can shut down the program completely. Go to the little sun icon in your system tray (bottom right hand side of your computer). Right-click and choose, "Exit".
I want to use music from my computer, but I cannot see it when I browse.
You may only upload mp3's. If you want to use another format (e.g. Wav, ogg), you will need to find a conversation program on the internet (e.g. Search for, "Convert Wav to MP3").
I uploaded my MP3's to the Vision Guider, but they do not work.
Your mp3 cannot have a bit rate higher than 160kpbs. To find the bit rate, you can hover overtop of the file or right-click on the file name and choose properties. You will need to find a conversation program on the internet (e.g. Search for, "change bit rate on mp3")
I am having trouble installing Adobe Flash Player. Can you help me?
Sorry, Adobe Flash Player is created by Adobe (not GotVision.com). You will need to contact them for support. You can also try searching the internet for help.
    Adobe Flash Player
I have downloaded the Vision Guider, but I am receiving error messages
If you are NOT a Vista user, please contact us and let us know what the error messages are.

If you are a Vista user, please make sure that you have downloaded the Vista version and have followed (closely) all the Vista instructions to download and to use the Vision Guider.

If you have opened the Vision Guider and did NOT right-click and choose, "Run as Administrator", you will receive the following error messages:

"Can not start Com manager of the app. Application will terminate!" and "Automation error. A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed."

    1. Click, "ok" to remove the messages.
    2. Right-click on the little sun icon (in your system tray - bottom right hand side of your screen), and choose, "Exit".
    3. After confirming that you would like to exit the application, you will receive 9 other error messages (e.g "Object variable or With block variable not set", "Parameter not found", etc...).
    4. Click, "ok" to remove the messages.

We apologize deeply for this huge inconvenience. It is an unfortunate result from the Vista Security (User Account Control - UAC).
I would like to re-download the Vision Guider

How to Start the Vision Guider

    Mac users
Mac version is not complete yet.
All Windows users (except Vista (UAC) users)
Before starting the Vision Guider, you must download the product 1st. If you have already downloaded the demo of the NEW Vision Guider, you do not need to download again, just click the Vision Guider button (above).
    Vista (UAC) users
Before starting the Vision Guider, you must download the product 1st. If you have already downloaded the demo of the NEW Vision Guider, you do not need to download again.

    Step 1:

On your desktop, right-click on the Vision Guider desktop icon (it looks like a sun)

    Step 2:

Choose, "Run as Administrator". This step is VERY IMPORTANT. Failure to do this step will result in error messages from the Vision Guider.

    Step 3:

When the "User Account Control - An unidentified program wants access
to your computer" appears, please choose, "Allow - I trust this program. I know
where it is from or I've used it before".

    Step 4:

When the little sun icon appears in your system tray (bottom right hand side of your screen), return to this page and choose, "Vision Guider" in the menu at the top of this page.
The butterfly (the Vision Guider) should appear.

    VERY IMPORTANT:

To use the Vision Guider at a later time, you will need to repeat the steps each time you want to use the program. Failure to do the steps will result in error messages.
What is a Vista (UAC) user?
Vista has some trickier security measures than the other Windows platforms (e.g. XP, 2000).

One of those measures is the "User Account Control (UAC). Many actions that you normally perform in Windows prior to Vista NOW require Administrator privileges and so Vista will ask for permission before it will continue with these tasks.

You will know if your "User Account Control" is turned "on" if you have those warnings that "pop up" each time to ask you if what you just did is something you really wanted to do. (e.g. "You need to confirm this operation.") Or if when you are installing a program, your screen dims and this message appears, "An unidentified program wants access to your computer".
