Voice Recording Help
I
cannot hear anything I have recorded
Check to see if your microphone is plugged into the correct jack. We know this seems obvious, but sometimes when plugging it in, if can be accidentally plugged into the "speaker" port or it is simply not plugged in all the way. It should be colored "green" or show a symbol of an old-fashioned microphone. We have also encountered some computers where the front jacks are not "turned on".
You can test to see if
your microphone is working: ----------------------------------------------------
Windows XP:
- Open Windows Start Menu
- Settings and/or Control Panel
- Sounds and Audio Devices
- Voice
- Test Hardware
- Follow instructions
----------------------------------------------------
Windows Vista/Win
7:
- Open Windows Start Menu
- Settings and/or Control Panel
- Hardware and Sound and/or Sound
- Recording
- Look at the Microphone bar on the
right hand side. If it is moving up and down while you are talking
in the microphone, it is working.
You can also test by making a short
recording using your computer's Sound Recorder:
-
Start Menu
-
Programs
-
Accessories
-
Sound Recorder
-
Start Recording
-
Speak into the microphone for 5-10
seconds
-
Stop Recording
-
Save As: change the File Name from:
"Untitled" to: "test"
-
Choose a location where you can find
it easily (e.g. Desktop) (Click
- "Browse Folders" if you do not see
your folders)
-
Go to the location that you saved
your test
-
Double click on that file
-
Listen to the file (make sure your
speakers are on and turned up
loud)
----------------------------------------------------
Mac:
- Open System Preferences
- Sound
- Input
- Adjust the Levels
----------------------------------------------------
If
after doing the above tests and your results are not good, the
problem lies with your computer's hardware:
Try a different microphone
The problem may be with your computer
speakers
Download and install new sound drivers
Please consult with a computer technician
If your microphone tests show that
everything is working, but you can still not hear anything you have recorded in
the Vision Guider, please try re-installing the software: Vision Guider Download
(return to top)
The
volume on my voice recording is too low or I am experiencing an
echoTo adjust the volume, please follow these
instructions:
----------------------------------------------------
Windows XP:
- Open Windows Start Menu
- Settings and/or Control Panel
- Sounds and Audio Devices
- Voice
- Under Voice Recording - choose Volume
- move slide bars up to make voice louder
----------------------------------------------------
Windows Vista/Win 7:
- Open Windows Start Menu
- Settings and/or Control Panel
- Hardware and Sound and/or Sound
- Recording
- Highlight Microphone
- Properties
- Adjust the Levels, Enhancements,
etc....
----------------------------------------------------
Mac:
- Open System Preferences
- Sound
- Input
- Adjust the Levels
----------------------------------------------------
Play around with all the different features in
your audio settings in your computer. Try every button and
feature. Perhaps there is something "turned on" or not that is
causing all of these challenges. Change one feature in your
audio settings, then do a recording and listen. Then turn off
that feature, try another, then record and listen. Lots of
trial and error.
There are many
factors that will affect your recording: - How loud you speak - How far your microphone is from your mouth - The type of sound card you have in your computer - The type of settings you have selected in the audio in your computer - The quality of your microphone Also, try using another microphone. There could be
some faulty wires that are causing the challenges. And you could try on another
computer.
I hear
clicks and pops and other strange noises in my
recordingThere are several possible reasons. Try this test :
----------------------------------------------------
Windows
XP:
- Windows Start
Menu
- All Programs
- Accessories
- Entertainment
- Sound Recorder
- Make a 15 - 30 second recording
----------------------------------------------------
Windows Vista/Win 7:
- Windows Start
Menu
- Programs
- Accessories
- Sound Recorder
- Start Recording
(with your microphone)
- Stop Recording
- Save to a folder
- Go to the folder
and find your file
- Double click the
file (it should open your Computer's media player)
- Listen to
recording
----------------------------------------------------
Mac:
- Open System
Preferences
- Sound
- Input
- Adjust the Levels
----------------------------------------------------
When you play back your recording (using the instructions above):
- And you DO NOT hear the unwanted noise, then:
- you may have turned up your voice and/or music too high. It could cause a distortion of the quality of the sound. Keep in mind that if you are turning up your voice and/or music it may be unnecessary. Your computer speakers (on a laptop for example) are not optimal to listening. Once the CD is made, you will play it in a CD player and you can turn up the volume without distorting the quality.
- Or you DO hear the unwanted noise, then there are several possible reasons:
- You are running
other programs in the background (e.g. anti-virus software,
Photoshop etc..)
- Try closing all
applications that are running in the background.
- The microphone,
connector, computer speakers, hardware devices and sometimes the
drivers in laptops are the issue.
- Try a different
microphone
- The problem may
be with your computer speakers - the strange noises may not be
present in your recording, try making the CD and playing on a CD
player
- Download and
install new sound drivers
- If none of
these stop the clicking and popping, try a different computer
Play around
with all the different features in your audio settings in your
computer. Try every button and feature. Perhaps there is
something "turned on" or not that is causing all of these
challenges. Change one feature in your audio settings, then do
a recording and listen. Then turn off that feature, try
another, then record and listen. Lots of trial and
error.

I am trying to make a change to a recording that
I made earlier, but the volumes of my voice do not
match.
It can be quite tricky getting your voice
volume at the same level.
Many factors go into the volume of
the voice:
- Your computer audio settings, - the distance the
microphone is from your mouth - the location that you recorded
(different acoustics in different rooms) - even the condition of your throat (e.g. dry
or you have a cold) and atmosphere (e.g. temperature of the
room)
Thus the reason why singers and
other recording artists, record in a controlled environment - a
recording studio with hundreds of adjustments that they can make to
the recording (e.g. equalization, reverb, etc...)
We did not include a lot of
these controls with the Vision Guider so that the product was very
easy to use. You could try using another recording tool (that
is way more complex then our product) to see if you can modify each
of the voice recordings so that they are closer in volume.
But keep in mind it can take you a
lot of time trying to adjust the volumes as opposed to re-recording. Hopefully
you did not make your voice recordings longer than a couple of minutes each, so
you can just re-record.
Is
there a limit to the length of each recording? It depends on the
speed of your computer and how much memory/resources you have
available.
The longer your voice
recording, the longer it will take for you to save the recording. 15
- 20 minutes should not be a problem for most computers, but a 30
minute or longer recording could cause the Vision Guider to "slow
down". You may try to make a long recording, but expect that there
may be delays. You will definitely NOT be able to make a recording
over 60 minutes long. And please be aware that if you do not have enough resources/memory on your computer, the Vision Guider may "crash" and you will lose your whole recording.
We highly
recommend that instead of making 1 long recording
(e.g. 15-20 minutes), that you break it down into
several short recordings (e.g. 3-5 minute each). This will make it
easier to edit later if you need to.
Also, when placing your recordings onto a CD or MP3
player, you will be able to choose the order of the
tracks.
You are also able to combine many voice recordings
with one music choice.
With these options, it is really not necessary to
make 1 long voice recording unless you are a hypnotherapist who does
not want to stop the "flow" of the recording.

How do I import my old voice recordings into the new Vision Guider?
The New Vision Guider uses Wav technology for the voice recordings, unlike the old Vision Guider which used MP3 technology.
We highly recommend creating new Voice Recordings.
If you really need to use a voice recording from the old Vision Guider in the New Vision Guider (e.g. you have a voice recording that is very long and you do not want to re-record), you will first need to convert the MP3 files to WAV files.
First you will need to find a free MP3 to WAV converter.
You can do a search using Google or try www.download.com (Please note that these conversation programs are not made by GotVision.com - please use at your own risk.)
Do a search for "MP3 to WAV converter".
Once you have a program downloaded and installed, you will need to locate the MP3 files from the old Vision Guider.
These are located at C:\Program Files\GotVision\voice
Once you have successfully converted a file you will need to place it in the correct file so the new Vision Guider software can access it.
It is located at C:\Program Files\VisionGuider\voice

Software Challenges
The program is taking a long time
If
the program seems to be working slowly, try closing down all
applications that are running. For example, Excel, Word, Skype,
Outlook, etc... And try closing applications that are running in the
background (you can see which applications are running by looking in
your task bar (bottom right-hand side of your computer). For
example, Web Cams, Media Players (Roxio, Itunes, etc...), Photo
Software, etc...

The Vision Guider does not seem to work properly
During installation, the program may not have
been fully installed. Please remove the Vision Guider from
your computer.
- Go to: Start menu - Programs - Vision Guider -
Uninstall
- Then re-download: Vision Guider Download
Please
make sure that you have no other programs running in the background
that may interfere with the installation (e.g. anti-virus programs,
Skype, etc...)
If it still does not work properly, please let us know what
types of challenges you are experiencing.

I want to use my Itunes (M4P's) in the Vision Guider, but I can't find them.-
Itunes M4P's are patented technology only to be used in Itunes products. You can only use MP3's in the Vision Guider. However, there are free conversation programs (that you can find on the internet) that you could use to convert your M4P's to MP3's. We also have had some of our customers tell us that they burned their itunes MP4's to a CD, then imported the music into the Vision Guider using the "Music on Your CD" option in the Vision Guider.

I
want my files to be private and enter my user name/password in each
time I open Vision Guider.
Your files are stored on your
computer only. They are not stored on our web server or on the internet. No one
has access to them unless they have access to your own personal computer files.
Your files are not actually
stored "inside" the Vision Guider. The files are stored on
your computer with your other personal files under "My
Documents/Vision Guider". The Vision Guider simply searches that
folder when it needs to access that file.
If you need privacy for your files, you could put a
Username and Password to access your computer.
The
purpose of a Username and Password on the Vision Guider is to verify that you
have paid and are authorized to have access to the Vision Guider.
